Western Skylights are,
simply put, made well.
Visible quality is
obvious when looking
at the skylight and
especially obvious
when viewing a cross
section.

FRAME
CONSTRUCTION
/ DESIGN |
The outer frame is
6063-T5 aluminum anodized
medium bronze. Corners
are folded from continuous
pieces rather than
welded & painted
or screwed together.
This frame design
gives UV shielding
protection to the
sealants for longer
life and provides
a cleaner, more finished
appearance.
The lack of welds,
holes or screws
on the exterior
contributes to
the low failure
rate of Western
Skylights, and
allows us to
provide our unequaled
$100 back plus
replacement guarantee.
The welded PVC
inner frame is
snapped to the
aluminum outer
frame around
the entire perimeter
of the glass,
providing a constant
and continuous
compression force
on the sealing
tape. Screw together
frames have "hard"
spots where the
screws are located
and “soft”
areas where the
inner frame can
sag between the
screws allowing
for uneven seal
compression.
The snap together
design provides
state of the
art thermo break
technology as
well as an excellent
condensation
drainage system.

GLASS |
Glass units are 7/8”
overall insulated
glass. The exterior
pane is tempered glass
and the interior pane
can be either tempered
or laminated glass
(tempered glass is
standard). Other glass
configurations are
available (low E,
bronze, obscure, etc.).
The entire unit is
sealed using a two-part
polyisobutylene and
silicone process.

|
ACRYLIC |
There are two primary
materials used in
plastic skylights
today, polycarbonate
and acrylic.
Polycarbonate,
also known as
Uvex and Lexan,
is extremely
strong. It has
a negative reputation
for discoloring
in the presence
of sunlight,
however, and
is not acceptable
in Western Skylights.
Acrylic is clearer,
12 times stronger
than glass, will
not yellow or
discolor and
forms into optically
distortion free
domes. Lower
grades of acrylic
are available
and often used
by other manufacturers,
but due to surface
ripple and reduced
strength in the
lower grades,
Western Skylights
uses only top
quality acrylic.
In response to
customer preference,
the acrylic is
formed to a low-rise
dome with an
air space designed
to provide maximum
thermal efficiency.
|
SEALANT |
Foam tape specifically
designed for this
application and with
built in UV inhibitors
is used with the proper
amount of compression
to insure a weather
tight seal.
|
PACKAGING |
All standard units
are shipped in 200
lb. test boxes. Acrylic
skylights are additionally
protected with 275
lb. test corner supports
and internal padding
to protect the glazing
from scratching in
transit and storage.
They can be stacked
up to 15 high because
of the internal reinforcement
and are clearly marked
on the end with the
part number, color
and configuration.

|
SIZING |
The sizing of each
skylight, both fixed
and opening, is predicated
on standard rafter
spacing (exception
is the 34xx series).
All units are designed
to fit either vertically
or horizontally and
align with combinations
of rafters. Additionally,
opening models fit
the same curbs as
fixed models. Custom
sizes or shapes are
also available to
accommodate unusual
or non-standard applications.

WESTERN
SKYLIGHTS WARRANTY |
All Western Skylights are warranted
for a period of five years from the
date of purchase against defects
in materials and workmanship. Defective
units must be returned to the factory
along with the purchase receipt.
Western Skylights are also covered
by a $100 labor reimbursement to
the original purchaser to compensate
time and effort in handling a leakage
claim. This labor warranty only applies
to leakage. It is in addition to
our standard product warranty and
is subject to verification of leakage
at our factory. KDL Enterprises,
Inc. will repair or replace,
at its option, a defective unit
at no charge as long as no damage,
modification or evidence of
disassembly exists. Spontaneous
bursting of tempered glass or
cracking of laminated glass
is not warranted by the glass
suppliers and is therefore not
covered under our warranty terms.
A discounted repair charge is,
however, available.
